Superfood Gummies

Ingredients: 

½ cup water

1 tbsp HCW Leafy Green Superfood Powder

½ cup freshly squeezed apple or pear or grape juice

4 tbsp unflavored powdered gelatin

6 drops HCW vanilla stevia 

A shallow silicone ice tray or gummies mould

 

Method: 

 

  1. Blend or whisk the superfood powder into the water until very well combined. Add the apple juice and blend/whisk until the liquid is fully combined with no lumps. 
  2. Stir the gelatin into the mixture. 
  3. Pour mixture into a saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring often, until the gelatin has dissolved completely. Be careful not to overheat. When the mixture is dissolved, and 6 drops of stevia and stir through. 
  4. Taste the mixture before removing from heat. If it needs more stevia, add it now. 
  5. Put the ice tray / gummy bear moulds on a flat surface and slowly fill each one (not quite to the top). 
  6. Put in the freezer until the mixture sets, about 10 – 15 minutes. Check at the 10-minute mark to ensure they don’t freeze through. 
  7. Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

    Thanks for the recipe. Could one replace gelatin for Agar Agar as an alternative. If so, how much Agar Agar please?

    1. Hi Nikki!

      If you’re using Agar Agar powder you should be able to do a 1:1 replacement (i.e. 4 tbsp Agar Agar for this recipe). We’ve only tested this recipe using gelatine, unfortunately, (as it is slightly more forgiving than Agar-Agar), so you might need to experiment a bit to find your desired consistency (the recipe above should give you quite a firm consistency – like wine gums – you can use slightly less if you’d prefer a jelly baby consistency). In general, though, the rule of thumb is a 1:1 replacement – which is nice and easy :). Just be sure to follow the heating instruction on your pack of Agar-Agar. It will need to be heated more than gelatine to dissolve. Happy cooking!
